Want to work with a Writing Associate? Here's how!
Use the form at the following link: https://forms.gle/ygLnwNkdc9g7nyi59 to request a writing associate for the coming semester. CWP accepts requests for the following semester from approximately midterm through the final weeks of the current semester. We’ll review your request right away and contact you if we have any questions. We usually sit down to make decisions about WA assignments shortly after final exams, and we typically notify faculty about their assignments several weeks before the beginning of the semester.
Here are a few things to keep in mind:
- Writing Associates are expected to have four, face-to-face meetings with your students over the course of the semester. Each of these meetings should be approximately 30 minutes in length. This does not mean you must have four major writing assignments. WAs can meet with your students for a variety of assignments, at any stage of their writing or design process. If you’re not sure whether this model works for your course, please contact us. We may be able to suggest alternative ways of supporting teaching and learning with writing in your class.
- We do our best to honor any special requests you might have, such as a WA who has taken courses in your discipline or who has experience with a particular type of writing. If you know of a WA who is currently on our staff who would be a good match for your course, please tell us! We cannot guarantee these special requests, but we will do our best (usually to the satisfaction of everyone involved!).
- We cannot hire a WA exclusively for your course, nor can we hire WAs mid-year. CWP does all its hiring in the spring semester for the following academic year, and we need to hire WAs who can support a variety of courses. However, if you know any students who would make great WAs , please nominate them! We will reach out to your nominees and encourage them to apply. Once they’re part of our staff, you can always request to work with them in the future.
- Due to current budget constraints, we may not be able to satisfy every request.
We will be accepting WA requests for Spring 2025 from November 15 through December 6. If you have questions, please reach out to CWP Coordinator Emma Hetrick at hetricke@lafayette.edu.
