Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a subset of emerging technologies that produce an output (auditory, textual, visual) based on a written prompt. These technologies are commonly, although not exclusively, created by commercial interests; are trained on a variety of data; and are predictive in nature.

Our approach to Generative AI is guided by Lafayette College’s Informational Guide on Generative Artificial Intelligence for Faculty & Staff Members and by best practices in the field of writing studies.

Regarding our program, we don’t support or recommend the use of any AI detection software. Our Writing Associates (WAs) are not trained to detect AI. WAs will respond to any and all writing as if it was student-created.
